United Refuah HealthShare is the only health share specifically founded to serve the Jewish community. Based in Cleveland, Ohio, membership is limited to individuals who are Jewish according to Halachic law and who agree to uphold shared religious and ethical values. To join, individuals must agree to abide by the ethical and practical laws and lifestyle of Judaism, which are based on the teachings of the Torah. This includes commitments to refrain from tobacco and marijuana, avoid drug and alcohol abuse, follow scriptural teachings on relationships, and maintain health through a balanced diet and regular exercise.
For more information about membership requirements, read United Refuah HealthShare’s membership guidelines here.
United Refuah HealthShare offers three membership types: single, couple, and family. Members make monthly contributions based on the chosen membership type, which are then used to share in eligible medical expenses according to the program’s guidelines and limitations. Membership includes a one-time $125 enrollment fee per membership, which consists of an application processing fee and the first year of membership dues. An annual renewal fee of $75 applies each following year.
The Annual PreShare is the amount that must be met before eligible medical expenses are shared at 80%. This means members pay 20% of the eligible medical expenses until they reach the annual CoShare maximum. Once this maximum is met, United Refuah shares 100% of eligible costs, up to $1 million per incident.
For example, if a single member broke their leg and received a total medical bill of $10,000, they would first pay $500 before United Refuah begins sharing the cost. After the $500 payment, the remaining balance of $9,500 would be shared at 80%. This means United Refuah would share $7,600, and the member would be responsible for the remaining 20%, or $1,900. However, because $1,900 exceeds the member’s annual CoShare maximum of $1,000, the member would pay only $1,000 toward the CoShare. In total, the injured member would pay $1,500 toward a $10,000 medical bill.
Single: $199 per month with a $500 Annual PreShare, a $1,000 annual 20% CoShare maximum, and a $2,500 pregnancy responsibility.
Couple: $349 per month with a $1,000 Annual PreShare, a $2,000 annual 20% CoShare maximum, and a $900 pregnancy responsibility.
Family: $499 per month with a $1,500 Annual PreShare, a $4,000 annual 20% CoShare maximum, and a $0 pregnancy responsibility. The Family membership includes up to six members, with a $50 fee for each additional family member.
Members hoping to start a family should note that United Refuah charges an additional amount for maternity needs for individual members and couples, and the due date must be at least ten months after the application date to be eligible. Family memberships (a couple with at least one child) do not require the additional maternity amount.
United Refuah HealthShare allows both providers and members to submit medical bills for sharing. Providers may submit bills directly, while members can submit itemized bills with proof of payment if needed. Sharing requests can be submitted easily through the online portal, by mail, fax, or email.
This health share does not use a provider network, so members may visit any licensed provider or facility without restrictions.

Review Guidelines:
Helpful reviews share real experiences with health sharing, finding providers, and everything in between. Simply stating that a company had great customer service isn’t useful, especially with no additional details. Reviews stating negatives like “this company is a scam” with no other information also doesn’t help our readers. Please share more! We want to know if your providers would work with the health share, if it was a hassle to submit bills, if it was easy to get answers to your questions, or if eligible needs were paid in a timely manner. Your insights make a difference!
